JOHN HOPKINS - VOCALS, GUITAR

John is a singer/songwriter originally from Gainesville, Georgia. John met Andy in September 1994 at an open mic night in Tallahassee, FL. At the time, John was singing and writing for Distant Relatives. In November of that year, directly following the release of their debut CD Entre Nous, Distant Relatives parted ways. John and Andy started playing in Tallahassee as an acoustic duo. John is a graduate of Florida State University with a degree in General Theatre.

ANDY BIRDSALL - VOCALS, GUITAR

Andy is from Leesburg, Florida where he played acoustic guitar for several years in the local bars with partner and resident guitar god Kent Rodriguez. After exhausting every possible musical opportunity in the greater Leesburg area, Andy moved to Tallahassee to pursue a degree in anything. Unfortunately, (or fortunately) his pursuits were cut short by a semester when John called him to say that not only should they play together, but he should let John move into his spacious one bedroom apartment until May when they should move to Atlanta, GA to find players. Andy said, "cool."

WILDER EMBRY - VOCALS, BASS

Little guy, big bass, BIG PROBLEMS... Wilder was methodically stolen from northeast Georgia super group Ashtray the instant their drummer decided to become a chef and their guitarist decided to draw maps. Hailing from Gainesville, Georgia, Wilder has been one of the most inspirational Brighter Shade audience members from the start. He has the energy of a rabid baboon, the gentle heart of a first grade school teacher, the melancholy of a heartbroken troubadour, and the scars to prove it. He is also singing for Atlanta's latest rock sensation, Diggity.

DAMIAN CARTIER - VOCALS, KEYBOARD

Previously the distant brother that we only got to see once every year and half or so, Damian slid into the Shade in January of 1998. He had been fronting a very popular band in Newport called Max Damian, and was looking for a change. Damian brings a fresh creativity to the band as well as a strong background in funk, jazz and reggae. You can also catch Damian's own band, His My Newt Orchestra, gigging in Atlanta. They tear the house down.

WOODY - DRUMS

WHO IS IT! John "Woody" Woodward has been an Atlanta staple for years. Originally from New Hampshire, Woody moved to Atlanta in 1994 and has played with some of the best local bands in town including Amerigo Poppy, Garrison Field and the Francisco Vidal Band. Woody brings a dead center groove, feel for days, natural instinct and ability to Brighter Shade. He also beats the ever-loving piss out of the drums.
